Permission Granted: The 2024 to 2025 Shift You Didn’t Know You Needed

Welcome to the Disruptive Narrative Blog, where we skip the "New Year, New You" clichés and go straight to the heart of what really needs to change—starting with you. And here's the kicker: You don’t need anyone’s permission to do it. Not mine. Not your mom’s. Not Instagram’s. And definitely not society’s.

Disclaimer:
Alright, before we dive in—I don’t usually use these words… but when I do, you know I mean business. If the words “damn” or “BS” make you clutch your pearls and faint into a fainting couch, maybe go grab some aromatherapy (my fav is from Bath and Body Works) or your favorite snack from the kitchen. But if you're here for a dose of real talk, a sprinkle of sarcasm, and a lot of honesty, then let's roll. You’ve been officially warned. 😏

Here’s the thing: We’ve been conditioned—programmed, if you will—to think that we need permission from external sources to make any real shifts in our lives. Your boss, your partner, your parents, the "experts" on TikTok, your inner circle... somewhere in this noisy mess, we’ve lost touch with the fact that the only person who can give you permission to change your life is you.

Now, before you go pulling out the “Oh, I’ve heard this before” card and roll your eyes so far back in your head that you might pull a muscle, hear me out. I’m not talking about just sitting around and waiting for some cosmic sign to slap you across the face. I’m talking about owning the fact that you, right now, have everything you need within you to make a massive shift in the way you live, work, and be. The problem is, you’ve been outsourcing your permission for so long that you’ve forgotten it was yours all along.

So here’s the question for 2025: Are you ready to give yourself permission to be the person you've been waiting for?

The Permission Problem

I get it. We’re all constantly looking for approval. Social media is one big “please like my post” fest, and the world is full of gatekeepers—“Oh, you want to start that business? Have you read the right books?” “Oh, you want to move across the country? You’d better have a detailed plan and a million-dollar budget.”*

Hell, you probably don’t even realize how many times a day you’re asking for permission—whether it’s to try a new career, wear something bold, or take a mental health day. It’s so ingrained in us that we don’t even question it. Society has created a million invisible rules around how to behave, what to do, what to wear, and how to live... that we forget to ask ourselves the most important question:

“Do I really need anyone’s permission for this, or can I just do it my damn self?”

(Here’s a spoiler: You can just do it your damn self.)

2025: The Year of Radical Permission

I don’t know who told you that you had to wait for the right moment, the right person, or the right anything to start doing what your soul is craving. Let’s be honest: the perfect time doesn’t exist. If you wait for all the stars to align, you’ll wait your whole damn life. And don’t even get me started on the idea of a “perfect” anything—perfect relationships, perfect body, perfect career, perfect happiness—because, spoiler alert, it’s all a giant scam designed to keep you stuck in a loop of constantly chasing something unattainable.

So, what if the shift you’re craving doesn’t come from changing everything in your life—but from changing your approach to you?

What if the permission you’ve been seeking all along was hiding within you, buried beneath all the societal BS, the fear of judgment, and the constant “shoulds” that suffocate us?

What if you started to give yourself the permission you’ve been waiting for to be who you really are?

The Rules That Aren’t Rules (and the Stories That Aren’t True)

In case you need a reminder, let’s revisit a few little truths about permission:

  1. You don’t need to justify your desires. If you want to take a trip to Dubai or Japan (because those are on my bucket list lol) and spend your savings on a life-changing experience, you don’t need a letter of recommendation from your accountant or a stamp of approval from your boss. The only justification you need is that you’re you, and you deserve to experience what you want.

  2. You don’t need to ask for permission to take up space. I know—there’s a lot of noise out there telling you how to be, when to be, and who to be. But who said you have to follow those rules? Who said you have to shrink yourself to fit into some mold? Newsflash: You don’t.

  3. You don’t need to apologize for your growth. Maybe it’s uncomfortable. Maybe your friends won’t get it. But that’s not your problem. Growth is uncomfortable—it’s supposed to be. Stop asking for validation before you make a move. You have all the permission you need to evolve into whoever you need to be.

From Permission to Action: The Game-Changer

Alright, so you’re sitting there wondering, “Okay, fine, I get it. Permission is mine, blah blah blah. Now what?”

Let’s talk action.

Shifting from permission to action is where things get interesting. Because you know what? You can’t just sit there and wait for the universe to hand you a gold star for every decision you make. Giving yourself permission is the first step—but then you need to follow through.

This means starting small—maybe it’s trying out a new hobby you’ve been too afraid to pursue, applying for that job you thought was out of reach, or finally writing that book that’s been dancing in your head for years.

When you give yourself permission, you also give yourself permission to fail, to get messy, to not have it all figured out. Because guess what? You won’t have it all figured out. And that’s part of the journey.

The Bottom Line

2025 is the year you stop waiting for external validation and start acting on your internal wisdom. It’s the year you start using your own voice, your own desires, and your own intuition as the compass that guides you.

It’s time to stop looking around for someone to give you the green light. It’s time to put your foot on the pedal, trust yourself, and go. Because, sweetheart, you have everything you need within you to disrupt the narrative of your life.

So, what are you waiting for? The world doesn’t need permission from anyone else to see you shine. And neither do you.

Permission granted. Now, go make some magic.
